DANCE IN MOTION

CALL FOR DANCE WORKS

Are you a dance artist or choreographer?
Do you have an idea development that you want to share with an audience and receive feedback?
Would you like to connect with other artists in the sector?

In partnership with The MAC Belfast, Six Dance Collective are piloting a unique platform to nurture our dance community and bring new dance works to Belfast audiences.

In an intimate evening, we aim to provide a supportive space for dance and movement artists to try out ideas on the stage, experiment with an audience and share their work with their peers, the dance sector and the public.

Our inaugural Dance in Motion: A Scratch Night of Works-in-progress will take place on Friday 19 April 2024 in the Upstairs Theatre at the MAC Belfast. This programme of 6-10 pieces will be curated by SDC Artistic Director Ruaidhrí Maguire.

Submissions have now closed.

FAQs

Are you looking for a specific genre?
No, and we’d really love to bring together artists working across a wide variety of dance and movement genres and cultures.

What stage should I be at?

We’d love to bring together a variety of artists at all stages of their careers. Whether you’re making your first work or are very established, we’d love to hear from you.

I’m Irish/N. Irish but don’t currently live there. Can I apply?
Of course. Unfortunately we can’t provide accommodation, but if you have somewhere to stay we’d love to have your proposal.

I live locally but am not Irish/N. Irish . May I apply?
Yes. We welcome proposals from anyone living in or with a personal connection to the island.

Is there an opportunity for dancers who are under 18?

Whilst this is an opportunity aimed at emerging and professional artists, we'll be announcing a training opportunity for aspiring dancers soon.

Do I have to perform the piece myself?
We are open to receive applications from choreographer-performers sharing their work on themselves and from choreographers working with other dancers.

My piece isn’t finished yet, but I need to submit some footage. What should I do?
The video element of the application is just to give us a sense of your proposal and to help us curate a varied programme. A short clip or two of your work in progress in any space is ideal. We are not expecting polished footage!

Are you commissioning these new works?
This is not a commissioning scheme. This is a platform opportunity for makers with work-in-progress to share your practice and meet other creators.

Can I book tickets for the sharing performance?

Yes! Tickets will be on sale very soon and can be purchased directly from The MAC.
