SDC announces world premiere of The View from Mars at the Lyric Theatre

The brand new dance production runs at The Lyric Theatre Belfast from 20-22 February 2025.

Six Dance Collective is proud to unveil its new production, The View from Mars, premiering at the Lyric Theatre's Naughton Studio from 20–22 February 2025. The one-act ballet explores themes of reflection and resilience, following the story of a lone space traveller cast adrift from Earth. As he journeys through the vastness of space, he confronts memories, regrets, and nostalgia in a voyage of self-discovery.

The production brings together a pioneering collaboration of local talent, featuring choreography by SDC Artistic Director Ruaidhrí Maguire, live music by composer Amelia Clarkson, and immersive visuals by artist Conan McIvor. This marks the latest creative partnership for the trio, who previously collaborated on SDC’s landmark inaugural production, White Doves (The MAC, 2023).

Taking centre stage is dancer Dominic Harrison (Ballet Ireland, Northern Ballet, Scottish Ballet and English National Ballet), performing the highly-physical work, accompanied by newly scored live music.

The View from Mars marks SDC's first fully professional production and its debut at The Lyric Theatre. Following the success of White Doves (2023), which featured 28 pre-professional dancers performing alongside professionals in Belfast's first newly created ballet; and dance scratch-night Dance in Motion (2024); this new production continues SDC’s commitment to pushing boundaries and showcasing local talent.

The View from Mars runs from 20-22 February 2024 in the Naughton Studio at The Lyric Theatre, Belfast. Tickets from £15 are available now.
