Call for Dance Works for evening of dance in Belfast

Updated: Mar 20

SDC are seeking works-in-progress from choreographers and dance makers for a public sharing at The MAC Belfast.

Together with The MAC Belfast, we are piloting a unique platform to nurture our dance community and bring new dance works to Belfast audiences.

In an intimate evening, we aim to provide a supportive space for dance and movement artists to try out ideas on the stage, experiment with an audience and share their work with their peers, the dance sector and the public.

For this programme, SDC are receiving proposals of dance works-in-progress from artists and choreographers with a connection to N. Ireland/Ireland who would gain from this opportunity and platform.

Our inaugural Dance in Motion: A Scratch Night of Works-in-progress will take place on Friday 19 April 2024 in the Upstairs Theatre at the MAC Belfast. This programme will be curated by SDC Artistic Director Ruaidhrí Maguire.

He said, “It’s rare that dance makers and artists have the opportunity to get feedback on a work in progress and I hope that this will have a positive impact on the booming community of dance artists on the island. We welcome submissions from a variety of artistic backgrounds, performance mediums, subject matters and genres. With this in mind, I’m interested in programming work that contains a good degree of physicality and bodies (or a body) moving through space. This is by no means exclusive. We remain open to a variety of ideas. We want you to surprise us!"

SDC would love to hear from dance makers of all genres and and all stages of their careers.

Works should be in the midst of your creative process or existing. We aim to showcase the process of making dance, rather than polished, complete performances.

Proposals should be submitted before 11.59pm on 22nd March 2024.
